At 3:40 PM local time, it emitted one electromagnetic pulse on 1.42 GHz. Six months later, Vasquez translated it as: "We came when the question became specific enough."
After six months of silent observation, the Joint Science Council was invited aboard. Three minutes in, a Zephyrian asked Vasquez a single sentence: "What problem has taken you the longest to solve?"
Humanity's answer, delivered through the UN channel: clean energy. The Zephyrian response came eleven minutes later. It was a complete schematic for a zero-point energy system capable of powering a city of ten million with zero waste output. No explanation. No conditions. No cost.
The Technology Transfer Agreement, ratified by 142 nations, formalized the exchange. Three categories remain withheld. They cite what Vasquez translates as "not yet necessary."
The Zephyrian optical organ is a coherent quantum aperture, locked in resonance with a singularity 308 million light-years away (catalogued by humans as NGC 4889). Through that lock, energy and information do not travel. They arrive.
The dark center of the iris is not a pupil. It is a direct, stabilized line of sight onto a black hole the species has been bound to for 4.2 billion years. Every Zephyrian draws nutrition, time, and recall through that line.
Older specimens look like their eyes are sinking inward. They are not. They are getting closer. The eye is not aging. The connection is tightening. What looks like a stare is power. What looks like a blink is recharge.
